We have commenced manufacturing our own version of the 1A Can Closing Machine, a can seamer which uniquely replicates the rotating can seaming process of fully automatic multi-head machines.

The original version of the machine was manufactured by The Metal Box Company for many years and proved highly popular for low speed semi-automatic production and laboratory work.

We have rebuilt many original MB 1A seamers but the diminishing availability of second-hand machines drove us to seek a solution to fulfill the growing demand.

Although other companies have developed modern alternatives, we felt that cost and compatibility of parts were of prime importance and therefore chose to replicate the original design and to upgrade the electrical system and safety guarding to comply with current regulations.

To operate the 1A, a lid is put on top of the filled container and the container is then placed in the machine. A lever is manually raised to clamp the container firmly under the seaming chuck, which is powered by the electric motor. The drive from the chuck causes the container to rotate, and then a trigger is manually actuated to cycle the 1st and 2nd operation seaming rolls in and out.

The can revolves 13 times during the 1st operation seaming process, and 4.5 times during the second operation, which ensures the highest resulting seam integrity offered by any single head seamer. The output of the machine is dependent on both the product filled in the can and the operator, but up to 10 cans per minute is a realistic throughput.

The 1A seamer is equipped to seam cans in the diameter range of 51 to 154mm, and within a height range of 22 to 229mm. With distance pieces a maximum can height of up to 692mm is possible.

The machine is easily changed over for different size cans, with a diameter change averaging 15 to 25 minutes and a height change around 5 minutes.

As standard the machine is supplied mounted on a tubular stand, with a 0.75 Kw dual voltage and dual frequency electric drive motor and safety guards designed in accordance with BS EN 292 Parts 1 & 2: 1991, BS EN 294: 1992 & BS EN953. A CE Mark and Declaration of Conformity are provided as required by European law.

We provide a full after sales service including a full one year warranty on both new and rebuilt machines, as well as on-site set-up and training assistance, and a comprehensive spare parts back-up of both new and surplus stock components.

All tooling is manufactured in-house to suit the customer’s actual container and lid samples, whether for PET, paperboard, tin or aluminium containers.

A range of finance options is available including short-term rental programs, monthly and yearly leases or outright purchase.

We are also pleased to offer fully rebuilt second-hand machines when available, or to rebuild or re-tool your existing machine at our UK workshop, or alternatively supply the parts for the work to be done locally.
