Fat and starch separators are designed for treating technological waste containing large amounts of fatty substances. Discharge of such type of contaminants hinders the operation of biological wastewater plants and conversely affects the operation of sewerage systems.
Fat separators are flow devices, meaning that the separation of fats and starch from the rest of the sewage occurs mechanically during their flow through the installation. Because of their modus operandi, separators also stop some of the gravity flows which accumulate in the bottom part of the settling tank. Correct selection of an adequate nominal size of the separator guarantees its proper functioning.
JPR SYSTEM fat and starch separators are designed for treating wastewaters (contaminated by fats) of a nominal flow from 1 - 100 l/s.

FAT separators should be used wherever it is necessary to separate fats, as well as vegetable and animal oils from sewage, i.e. in commercial and production facilities, such as:
commercial kitchens and large catering facilities (restaurants, hotels, roadside restaurants, etc.)
manufacturing plants associated with food industry
Wastewaters of a substantial fat content in a form unsuitable for separation (emulsified) from places such as milk and cheese dairies, fish processing plants and other places equipped only with dishwashers or ‘wet waste compactors’, can be effectively treated in fat separators only under specific conditions. These wastewaters may require additional processing. In case of using a separator for wastewaters containing solids that are easy to remove (e.g. fish processing plants) it is not necessary to use a settling tank. Such a separator should have a screen in the inlet to stop larger solids. Before coffee breaks, the solids remaining on the screen should be removed, and the separator - thoroughly rinsed with clean water to avoid putrefaction.

Because substances retained in separators are classified as dangerous - code 19 08 03 (MOŚZNiL order of 24.12.97 Journal of Laws No. 162 item 1135), maintenance can only be carried out by a company authorised by proper authorities responsible for environment protection.

Separators should be regularly checked, drained and cleaned. It is important to follow local regulations regarding sewage discharge. The frequency of control, draining and cleaning should depend on the separator storage capacity, or the sediment in the settling tank, and be in line with the operational experience.

Frequency of draining depends on the quantity of wastewaters to be processed
The mud trap compartment must be emptied regularly, at least 4 times a year
If there was no accidental overflow of fatty substances or starch, the mud trap compartment must be emptied once a year
After each draining of the unit, the separator should be re-filled with water.
